    Good to know: The 5 most important cleansing facts

    1. What does a cleanse or juice cleanse do?


    Going without solid food, often referred to as fasting, is a traditional or religious ritual for cleansing and releasing new energy found in nearly all cultures around the world. The theories and attempts to explain what a positive influence healthy, vitamin-rich, plant-based food does in the human body could fill entire volumes. If you have a little some extra time and are looking for some scientific background information, we recommend The China Study by renowned American Professor T. Colin Campbell.

    2. When and how often should I juice cleanse?

    A serious juice cleanse can be done as often as it feels comfortable. Simply listen to your body. Typical signs that you would benefit from a juice cleanse are:

    • You often feel tired and listless.
    • You struggle with mood swings and bad temper.
    • You suffer from digestion problems (constipation, diarrhoea, bloating).
    • You gain weight even though your calorie intake is (very) low.
    • You suffer from problematic skin conditions (dryness, itchiness, desquamation, impurities).
    • You regularly suffer from headaches.
    • You suffer from food intolerances.
    • You notice first signs of a cold.
    • You are preparing for an event or a holiday – or recovering from one.

    Every juice cleanse is a little time-out for your body during which your system can bounce back into its natural equilibrium. A certain regularity is therefore advisable – your body and immune system will thank you. We recommend one 5-7-day cleanse every quarter (cleanse every season). In fact, it isn’t uncommon for many of our customers to do a 3-day cleanse every month, or even every other week.

    3. How many cleanse days should I do?

    Three days are sufficient for little quick fix here and there or for those who want to cleanse regularly or maintain a very health-conscious lifestyle. Otherwise we recommend a minimum length of 5 days, which is what your body needs to bring restore harmony to the metabolism and acid/base balance. Those who want to lose weight and keep it off while lastingly changing their dietary habits should plan for up to 14 days. Those who want to completely delete old eating habits from their “nutritional memory” should plan for 21 days, which is the exact length of the body’s natural cellular regeneration cycle.

    4. What is an ideal cleanse day like?

    During a cleanse you will consume mostly raw, unprocessed fruit and vegetables—ideally in the form of fresh, cold-pressed juices, light vegetable soups or vegan clean eating meals. The most well-known and effective cleanse is the classic juice cleanse. For several days in a row, you eliminate all solid food from your diet, instead drinking mainly fruit and vegetable juices throughout the course of the day. This cleanse variant is especially effective because it takes all stress off of the digestive system. After a heavy meal, the digestive system normally requires 60 to 70% of the body’s energy to function. Ever feel like you just want to go to sleep after lunch? Then you know what we mean.

    A juice cleanse day usually starts with a citrus lemonade, followed by four fruit and vegetable juices that are not too heavy on the fruit and ideally completely free of fruit pulp. It ends with a protein-rich, water-based vegan nut milk. You will consume the 6 bottles throughout the day at intervals of approximately every two hours. One 440 ml bottle of juice contains an average of up to 2 kilos of fruit and vegetables. That makes up to 10 kilos a day! It is nearly impossible to consume this enormous quantity in normal, non-liquid form.

    And by the way: You should always avoid radical fasting or unhealthy crash diets like Master Cleanses that involve consuming nothing but water with lemon, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Not only will you end up with a nutritional deficit, you are almost guaranteed to experience the yo-yo effect as well.

    5. What is important with regards to the juices for a cleanse programme?

    For a juice cleanse to have the desired effects, you should consider the following:

    • High Vegetable Content (acid-base balance)

      Pure fruit juices contain too much fructose, which can raise blood sugar levels, trigger ravenous cravings and impair the body’s ability to burn fat. Juice should also contain lots of alkaline vegetables in order to restore the balance of acidity and alkalinity in our bodies. Ideally, the ratio should be at least 40% or more. Juice Delight juices therefore contain at least 40% vegetables, Super Green Delight juices 50-70%, and Pure Veggie Delight juices 95% vegetables (remaining 5% are citrus fruits).

    • Cold-pressed, ultra fresh and completely natural

      High-quality juices for a juice cleanse-programme should also be gently cold-pressed and never heated, pasteurized or HPP processed. The fresher and the more natural the juice, the denser it is in nutrients – and the greater the positive effects on our bodies. Classic pasteurization means that the juice will be heated up to very high temperature which significantly decreases its health benefits. And even though the nutrient content might seem unchanged after high-pressure pascalization (HPP), it still plunges after merely 5 days as vitamins and enzymes do not survive sitting on a shelf for any longer than that. This means that the longer a juice is stored, the lower the amount of antioxidants, enzymes and vitamins – which makes it increasingly less beneficial for our health.

      To prevent any deficiencies and to make our cleanses as varied as possible, all of our juices are composed of at least four different types of fruits and vegetables. This makes sticking to the programme a lot easier and also ensures that the body is fed all necessary nutrients.

    • Proper preparation and follow-up

      For the success of your cleanse, it is not only extremely important that you prepare yourself properly before it starts, but also that you keep up with your healthy habits afterwards. If your body is not prepared pre-cleansing, stronger detox symptoms can be the consequence (including headaches, tiredness and discomfort). And if you fall back into the same unhealthy habits directly after your cleanse, you risk destroying the cleanse’s positive effects – or even harming your now highly sensitised body.

    Pre Cleanse

    Depending on your prior dietary and lifestyle habits, a cleanse can be a moderate to very major adjustment for your body. In order to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible, eliminate any negative side effects and make sticking with the program easier, we recommend eliminating certain foods from your diet a few days in advance. Ideally, you should gradually phase out animal protein, wheat flour, sugar, alcohol, nicotine and coffee one week prior to starting your cleanse and replace it with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, brown rice, potatoes and legumes. This requires a little extra discipline, but is well worth the effort. You will have fewer sudden cravings and can look forward to even better results, as your cleanse is indirectly extended in length through the preparatory period.

    Cleanse

    You can be proud of yourself. By deciding to cleanse, you have already taken a big step to a new, healthier you. Now you are ready to get started! But how?

    Correct sequence: 1, 2, 3 ...

    All of our products have number stickers on them that indicate the sequence in which you should consume them. Start in the morning with number 1, then 2, etc. You should leave approximately 2 hours between products to keep your blood sugar level constant. Please do not risk intervals that are too far apart either, as you may otherwise experience sudden intense cravings that could put a rapid end to your cleanse if you give in to them.

    Shake, shake!

    If freshly pressed, untreated juices are left standing untouched, layers or sediment will often form. This may not look pretty, but it is a mark of genuine quality that occurs only in fresh, 100% natural juices containing no emulsifying agents. Just shake your bottle before opening until the contents have a homogeneous consistency and color.

    Side Effects?

    Depending on your previous dietary habits and how well you prepared yourself for your cleanse, you may experience a few unpleasant but harmless side effects such as headaches in particular during your first three cleanse days. These are no cause for concern. They usually disappear again quickly and are no reason to end your cleanse early.     We deliver anywhere in German from Tuesday to Friday via overnight express and in the Munich metropolitan area from Monday to Friday via courier. If you live in Munich, you also have the option of saving delivery costs and picking up your products directly from us between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. Where? Pure Delight, Falkenstr. 7A, backyard, 81541 Munich.

    When and how will my delivery arrive?

    When ordering, you can choose between two delivery windows: 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. or 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Your products will then be delivered in an environmentally friendly paper tote bag by courier to the address of your choice during the specified timeframe. You will also receive an extra tote bag for each cleanse day.

    All other locations in Germany

    Your (first) delivery will arrive on your chosen starting date between 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. via overnight express in an environmentally friendly, well-cooled and insulated box.

    How many deliveries will I receive for a cleanse?

    If you cleanse will last more than 3 days, we will send your products in several partial deliveries to ensure maximum freshness and quality.

    • 3 days = 1 delivery
    • 5 days = 2 deliveries
    • 7 days = 2-3 deliveries
    • 12 days = 5 deliveries
    • 14 days = 6 deliveries

    Delivery days, weekends & holidays

    We usually deliver only on weekdays. Any cleanse menus for the weekend will be delivered beforehand. In exceptional cases, we can also delivery on Saturday for an extra fee. Your exact delivery dates will depend on your chosen starting date.

  • Storage & shelf life

    Our cleanse products are always fresh and never preserved or pasteurized. Correct storage therefore plays a very important role in maintaining their taste and quality. The vitamins, enzymes, minerals and trace elements need to be kept fresh so that our body can derive maximum benefit from them.

    Juices

    All JUICE DELIGHT products are cold-pressed, unpasteurized and 100% natural. When well-cooled, they have a limited shelf life after leaving our production site. Once they are delivered, store them in the refrigerator at +2 °C to +8 °C and consume them within 4 to 5 days. The exact use-by date is printed on the label on the bottom of the bottle.

    Soups

    Our vegan vegetables soups in airtight, screw-lid jars are good for at least 7 days after delivery when kept properly cooled (+2 °C to +8 °C). The exact use-by date is printed on a small label on the bottom of the jar.

    You can also easily freeze the soups in the freezer and de-frost them whenever you like.

    What to do with the packaging?

    Please keep our environmentally friendly tote bags, shipping boxes, jars and cooling elements and use them again. The screw-lid jars, for example, are perfect for storing and organizing goods in your kitchen. Please put our bottles in your recycling container. Our food packaging (salad bowls, dressing containers, smoothie cups, etc.) are made from PLA and are fully biodegradable. Simply throw them in your organic waste bin or compost pile.

    What is a typical cleanse day like?

    During a cleanse (juice cleanse), you consume only liquid nutrients each day, usually in the form of freshly pressed juices. The morning typically begins with a light, refreshing lemonade made from lemons or grapefruit for an extra alkaline start to the the day. This is then followed by four carefully coordinated fruit and vegetables juices, consumed at two-hour intervals. A vegan nut or almond milk with plant protein and healthy fats forms the crowning finish at the end of the day. In soup cleanse variants, 1 or 2 juices and the nut milk are replaced by 1 or 2 finely pureed, vegan soups.

    Can I go about my everyday activities as usual?

    Our programs are specially designed to make things as easy as possible for you. You don’t need to take vacation time or start on a weekend—our cleanses can be done during your day-to-day (working) life. However, you should still give your body time to rest. Try to go to bed a little earlier, especially during the first few days of your cleanse. Your body is working especially hard and will thank you for the extra care.

    How much weight will I lose during a cleanse?

    How much weight you lose will depend on your age, sex, starting weight and metabolic activity. It will also naturally depend on the length and type of cleanse program that you have chosen. Your prior dietary habits play a key role as well. With all of these factors, it is difficult to make a generally valid prediction.     I am already very thin and don't want to lose any weight. What about me?

    Our cleanse programs guarantee an adequate supply of nutrients and calories. If you are already every thin or underweight, you will lose very little or no weight at all. Any weight you may lose is usually due to water loss, which will typically regulate itself in just a few days.

    Will I feel hungry?

    Most people are surprised that they feel almost no hunger at all. The reason is relatively simple: Freshly cold-pressed juices and clean food made from fruit and vegetables practically flood your body with high-quality plant-based nutrients. If you have a very high metabolic rate, however, you may still experience occasional feelings of hunger. In this case, simply follow our snack tips.

    Can a cleanse lead to symptoms of nutritional deficit?

    Not when you chose a cleanse from an experienced provider like Pure Delight. One bottle of our JUICE DELIGHT juice contains the very best nutrients from 2 kilos of freshly harvested fruit and vegetables. That is nearly 10 kilos in 5 bottles—much more than we could ever eat in the form of salads or other vegan meals. A serious cleanse based on cold-pressed juices should never be confused with the “Master Cleanse” often heralded as a miracle diet. It consists of days spent drinking nothing more than water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Not only is this an extremely low-nutrient diet and a very unhealthy way to lose weight, it bring with it nutritional deficits and the yo-yo effect as well.

    Will my body get enough protein if I drink only juice / eat only vegan for several days in a row?

    Protein is found not just in meat, fish and dairy products but also in fruit, vegetables, nuts, sprouts, seeds and legumes—and these abound in our products. As a matter of fact, our bodies are able to digest these valuable plant-based proteins much better than animal proteins because the amino acids they contain are less complex.

    Will I experience a yo-yo effect after the cleanse?

    No, the much dreaded yo-yo effect occurs only when our body does not receive a sufficient supply of nutrients when losing weight and the metabolism, fearing a famine, shifts into low gear.

    Each JUICE DELIGHT juice contains the nutrients from up to three kilos of harvest-fresh fruit and vegetables. Depending on the type of cleanse you choose, your body will receive between 700 and 1,200 calories from plant-based nutrients. These are far more valuable for your body than the same number of “empty” calories from white bread or chocolate would be. This way, the yo-yo effect is kept at bay. However, you must naturally continue eating relatively healthy food and practicing moderation after your (juice) cleanse as well.

    What and how much can I drink during a cleanse?

    We recommend that you drink at least 2 liters of water per day. Non-carbonated, low-sodium water with a low pH value is ideal. Start each day by drinking a glass of hot water with a slice of lemon or fresh ginger and accustom yourself to drinking at regular intervals during the day. If you can, always place a full glass of water somewhere within easy reach and drink as much and as often as you need to quench your thirst.

    Can I engage in sports during my cleanse?

    Yes, you can! Healthy exercise is a sensible way to augment your cleanse. If your objective is to lose weight, we recommend exercising for at least 30 minutes, or even better 60 minutes, at minimum 3 times a week. What a healthy amount of exercise is for you personally depends on you as an individual. Listen to your body! If you are accustomed to jogging every day, there is no reason not to jog during your cleanse, as long as you feel up to it. However, avoid extremely heavy physical exercise and don’t suddenly try and transform into a professional athlete if you are usually relatively inactive. Excessive exercise that drains your reserves will cause your body to become overly acidic. If you have not engaged in regular exercise before your cleanse, begin gradually with yoga, Pilates, light fitness training, bicycling, swimming or simply taking a long walk in the fresh air each day.

    When and for whom is a cleanse NOT recommended?

    • During pregnancy and nursing
    • While taking antibiotics
      (wait to start your cleanse until after completing the course of medication!)
    • For those with eating disorders
    • For those diagnosed with MCAD metabolic disorder

    If you have any of the following indications, talk to your doctor before deciding to cleanse:

    • Type-1 diabetes
    • Irregular blood sugar levels
    • Heart, lung, liver or kidney disorders
    • Other serious diseases such as cancer or immune deficiency

    We usually do not recommend cleanses for young people who are still in the growth phase or under 13 years of age. However, in exceptional cases such as when altering dietary habits to reduce obesity, it can make good sense.
